Where the story started, 40 years ago...
Since 1960, Bruno Lafourcade has been restoring properties in the Perigord region of France.
In this area, the golden age of the châteaux was : La Renaissance, when the Italian influence was strong. The financial means increased greatly after the 100 years war. The development of sharecropping, the business in the Dordogne valley and the very low cost of iron contributed to the construction of Châteaux and manor houses.
Château de Rocanadel
Here half of the Château has been rebuilt.
Built on a rock, the Château of Rocanadel was erected on the place of a former castle whose defending function was important. A beautiful legend tells that a young blue-eyed lady of the manor was kidnapped by an Arabian black-eyed chief. Today, the restored castle is worth its former magnificence.
